Somewhere between art book and poetry collection, A Wee Torchlight Bobbing Up and Down is an attempt to understand and depict dementia from the point of view of both the person living with it and those close to them. The result is a collaboration between James Kearns and his late grandmother, Joyce Turner. The latter’s autobiographical notes (written to herself as her memory began to fail) are processed into two sets of cards, to be engaged with interactively as the reader picks their way through ritual, repetition, and confusion in pursuit of fleeting moments of lucidity and connection.
